Thousands Honor Björn Skifs as He Ends Career Due to Dementia

Björn Skifs has been diagnosed with dementia and is ending his artist career. On his official Facebook page, the tributes are pouring in by the thousands. ”Thank you for all the fantastic years with you Björn”, writes Nils Landgren.

”You gave me a chance already in 1976 and for that I am eternally grateful”, continues the jazz musician – who also thanks the colleague for him meeting his wife, the actress and musical artist Beatrice Järås, when they both participated in Björn Skifs restaurant show at Hamburger Börs 1978.

At 6 pm, over 10,000 people had commented on the post where Skifs announces that he ”steps off the stage” as a result of being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

”You are and will remain one of the greatest”, writes the singer and songwriter Andreas Weise.

In comment after comment, Skifs – the rock musician who over the years also became a popular entertainer and actor – is praised for his artistry, acting and humor.

”Thanks for all the wonderful concerts”, writes a person. ”The first experience was in Lysekil 1967”.

Born 20 April 1947 in Vansbro.

Music: In the group Slamcreepers in the 1960s. With Blue Swede, Skifs had several hits in the USA in 1974, including ”Hooked on a feeling” which topped the list in April. Won the Melodifestivalen twice; 1978 with ”Det blir alltid värre framåt natten” and 1981 with ”Fångad i en dröm”. His most remembered Melodifestivalen song is ”Michaelangelo” which came fifth in 1975.

Created the tour concept Badrock in the 1980s and had several major list successes in the 2000s; ”Håll mitt hjärta” song on Svensktoppen for 142 weeks and ”When you tell the world you're mine”, which Skifs and Agnes sang at Crown Princess Victoria's and Prince Daniel's wedding in 2010.

Film, roles in selection: ”En flicka på halsen” (1982), ”Smugglarkungen” (1985), ”Strul” (1988), ”Joker” (1981), ”Drömkåken” (1992).

On stage: Several restaurant shows and musicals, including ”Spök” (1981-83).

TV: Host of several popular programs, including ”Kryzz” with Arne Hegerfors and panel member in ”Gäster med gester” in the 1980s. Played the main role in the Christmas calendar "Julius julskötare" in SVT 1978.
