In the raid, 30 Starlink receivers were seized, which lack a license in Myanmar and are frequently used in online scams. Despite previous raids against scammers, new centers are quickly set up with Starlink units installed on the roofs.
The centers are notorious for recruiting staff from other countries under false pretenses with promises of legitimate jobs, which in reality involve carrying out illegal scams. According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Southeast Asian scam operations swindled 348.5 billion kronor in 2023.
