It looked for a long time like the reigning champions would dominate the final.
Halfway through the match, Thorengruppen led 5–0.
But in the second period, Pixbo reduced the lead twice, and in the third period, the home team scored three more goals, including two in power play.
With seven minutes left to play, Pixbo was one goal away from taking the match to overtime. Instead, Thorengruppen's Veera Kauppi scored her third goal of the day into an empty net, securing the SM gold for her team.
I think it's so great that our team can end up in any situation and still manage to secure it to our advantage, and that's probably why we're Sweden's best team again. The emotions come flooding out, with family and friends in the stands, and getting to score a final goal into an empty net. There's nothing better, says Kauppi, whose sister Oona Kauppi also scored a goal in the match.
This is the fifth season in a row that Thorengruppen becomes Swedish champions on the women's side – and also the fifth year in a row Pixbo takes the silver medal.
It's ridiculously frustrating. These girls deserve everything, so it sucks incredibly much, says Mira Markström, who was behind much of Pixbo's comeback.
