AIK has made it clear with a new coach.
Mikkjal Thomassen has signed a contract for two and a half years.
"Mikkjal was our first choice", says sports manager Thomas Berntsen.
Thomassen comes most recently from Norwegian Fredrikstad, which he took over at the end of 2022.
"He fits our profile like a hand in a glove. I am convinced that he will eventually lift both training routines and results up among the best in the Nordic countries", says AIK's sports manager Thomas Berntsen on the club's website.
The new coach of the Stockholm club joins immediately and leads his first training session on Thursday.
"I come to this proud club to fight and work hard. For the club crest, for the supporters, for the players. I look forward to meeting all new colleagues at Karlberg", says the 48-year-old from the Faroe Islands.
The contract is written until December 31, 2026.
In addition to Fredrikstad, Thomassen has coached Faroese Kí Klaksvik. Before his coaching career, he played for several clubs on the Faroe Islands and made 13 appearances for the Faroese national football team.
Thomassen takes over after Norwegian Henning Berg resigned from the coaching job at AIK in June due to disagreements with Thomas Berntsen and the club's management.
Berg took over the club after Andreas Brännström was fired, and coached AIK for just over a year.
Assistant coach Henok Goitom has led the team in the latest matches, most recently in Monday's 2-1 win away against Halmstad.
AIK is currently eighth in the Allsvenskan table.
