Thomas Partey was substituted in in the 78th minute for Villarreal when the Spanish club met English Tottenham in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Then the midfielder was booed by the home supporters at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And the audience continued to boo every time Partey was involved in the game.
On Wednesday, Partey is expected in court in London, as the 32-year-old is charged with five cases of rape and one case of sexual assault. The suspected crimes are said to have been committed against three women between 2021 and 2022, when Partey played for Tottenham's biggest rival Arsenal.
On August 5, Partey was released on bail at a court hearing in London, two days later he was cleared for Villarreal. Partey denies the crimes.
The match between Tottenham and Villarreal ended 1–0, and Swede Lucas Bergvall was behind the decisive goal.
