Canadian-Haitian Thélyson Orélien, who was accused last month of using artificial intelligence to write his bestselling debut novel, now says in a statement to AFP that “not a single sentence in the book was created by a machine.”
However, he admits that he made "unacceptable mistakes" by plagiarizing other authors in texts written before the publication of the French-language novel "C'était ça ou mourir".
Thélyson Orélien recently lost his nomination for the prestigious French Goncourt Prize after the AI accusations spread from social media to the country's cultural pages.
