A total of 394 bears may be shot in this year's licensed hunt, which corresponds to 14 percent of the population. The most recent total bear inventory was conducted in 2022, which showed approximately 2,800 bears in the country.
Licensed bear hunting takes place in the seven northernmost counties: Värmland, Jämtland, Dalarna, Gävleborg, Västernorrland, Västerbotten and Norrbotten.
The most bears, 27, were shot in Dalarna on Friday, followed by Gävleborg with 21.
The largest allocation is in Västerbotten, where 100 bears can be shot. In Norrbotten, the number of bears that can be shot this year has almost doubled: 46 compared to 24 last year.
In Värmland, the hunt was called off early on Friday after a female bear was shot.
