A total of 394 bears may be shot in this year's licensed hunt, which corresponds to 14 percent of the population. The most recent total bear inventory was conducted in 2022, which showed approximately 2,800 bears in the country.
Licensed bear hunting takes place in the seven northernmost counties: Värmland, Jämtland, Dalarna, Gävleborg, Västernorrland, Västerbotten and Norrbotten.
The largest quota is in Västerbotten, where 100 bears may be shot. In Norrbotten, the number of bears that may be shot this year has almost doubled: 46 compared with 24 last year.
In Värmland, the hunt was halted early on Friday after a female bear was shot.
