It is above all Piteå's work to bring culture into society as a whole that has impressed the jury. They highlight the free cultural school, the strong support for associations and the fact that the municipality is also involved in the work of a sanctuary for endangered artists and writers.
The award is presented by the Vision trade union for the 37th year in a row. The idea is to highlight municipalities that “take culture seriously” and invest in having a rich cultural life. This year there were many candidates, including the finalists Gävle and Västervik.
"With strong support for associations, innovative initiatives and an inclusive approach, Piteå shows how culture can be both everyday life and faith in the future," the justification states.
