Big names and events from the year appear in Google's search trends for 2024. The European Championship and the Summer Olympic Games are the major sporting events, the war in the Middle East and the US election stand out among the things people were interested in.
But the year's most trending news search was mycoplasma, the bacterium that made many people sick during the fall. Other trending news events were British Princess Kate's cancer diagnosis, the mpox outbreak, and the election to the European Parliament.
The European Parliament election in June led many to ask "How do I vote in Sweden?". Many also googled Liam Payne after One Direction star's death, and Taylor Swift was particularly googled this year - not least thanks to her concerts in Stockholm in May.
The Netflix success "Love is Blind Sweden" trended most among TV programs and rapper C Gambino, who was murdered during the year, among Swedish artists.
Other common googlings in the entertainment world during the year were "How old is Gunilla Persson?" and "Why are Marcus & Martinus competing for Sweden?", both connected to the Melodifestivalen.
