Harvey Weinstein, who has been sentenced to lengthy prison terms for rape and sexual assault, returned to court in New York on Thursday. The case involves a rape charge that was dismissed after a jury failed to reach a verdict. A new trial is scheduled for March 3.
Weinstein, who denies all charges, also sought to have a sex-crime conviction against him overturned; that request was denied. His lawyer said Weinstein is seeking a plea deal with prosecutors before his trial in March.
Harvey Weinstein has been tried in New York twice before. In the first trial in 2020, Weinstein was convicted on all charges, but the verdict was overturned and the case was retried because of errors during the trial.
During the second trial, the jury foreman said he felt threatened by other jurors, and the judge declared the final part of the trial null and void. Another attempt to resolve the case is scheduled for March 3.
