Two of the three students suspected of crimes were remanded in custody on Sunday on probable cause of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated unlawful coercion, unlawful threats and aggravated assault.
The district court refused to remand the third student, who the prosecutor had asked to be remanded on suspicion of assault and unlawful coercion of the normal degree. The prosecutor appealed the decision, and the Court of Appeal has now ordered that he be remanded in custody.
All the suspected crimes took place at the school.
The three suspects are all 18-year-old men. They were arrested during a police operation at the school on Thursday and remanded in custody the following day. Court documents seen by TT show that the suspected crimes were directed against three minors.
According to information provided to several media outlets, the events took place in connection with a “derailed” initiation ritual.
The school says its board takes very seriously what happened at the school and is now the subject of a police investigation.
“The board is very aware of the risks associated with a boarding school environment and has therefore actively worked to combat abusive behaviour. The school has addressed these issues systematically and concretely. Despite this, serious incidents have now occurred,” says Sigtuna School chairwoman Paula Guillet de Monthoux in a press release.
“We sympathise with those who have been victimised and with all the students and parents who are negatively affected and worried,” she continues.
