Of the Swedish runners, only Meraf Bahta (14.49.95) and Sara Lahti (14.52.69), who both broke the 15-minute barrier, have run faster.
Given Carmen Cernjul's development, she may soon reach that milestone as well. When the Spårvägen runner finished fifth in the 5,000 meters during a gala in Brussels on Saturday evening, she crossed the finish line in 15:06.71 - an improvement on her own Swedish junior record by a full 32 seconds.
"I am so proud and happy with myself," the 18-year-old tells the Swedish Athletics Federation's website.
The time is barely two seconds off the European qualifying limit for the European Championships in Birmingham in August.
