"I'm tired after a long and eventful season and don't feel that I'm ready to make a decision about the future now. That's why I've asked for a little more time before I make a final decision", says the Norwegian skiing star in a press release.
Johaug, soon to be 37 years old, made a comeback this past winter after being away from the World Cup circuit for two seasons. The big goal was the home World Championship in Trondheim and not least the 50km event, but the Norwegian had to leave the championship without any gold.
After having the margins against her on a few distances, she had to settle for three silver and one bronze medals. Sweden instead took all six World Championship gold medals on the women's side.
Johaug was initially clear that the comeback would only be for one year, but during the winter, signals have come that she's wavering on the issue.
"Therese gets the time she needs and we don't want to pressure her in any way when it comes to such an important decision", says national team leader Cathrine Instebø.
Therese Johaug is formally selected for the national team ahead of next season, pending a definitive answer.
