Therese Johaug Applauds Joint Men's and Women's Race at Holmenkollen

In the winter, women and men will run the five-mile race at the same time in Holmenkollen. Therese Johaug praises the decision. I support it to 110 percent, says the ski legend to Expressen.

It's the first time since 2010 that the women and men compete on the same day in Holmenkollen, but now the classes will be run simultaneously. Earlier, the women rode three miles, but for a couple of years it has been changed to five miles, just like for the men.

Therese Johaug, who made a comeback last season, has announced that she has once again ended her skiing career. But she still praises the International Ski and Snowboard Federation's (FIS) decision for the five-mile run.

Finally! Now they have decided.

The men start first and 45 minutes later the women start.

To run on a Sunday in Holmenkollen, or a Sunday during the World Championship in Trondheim, it's like being at a wake, says Johaug to Expressen.

Norwegian TV2's skiing expert Petter S Skinstad is not as positively inclined to the change.

I am very, very, very uncertain about how this will work in practice. I think this will be very chaotic on the arena, both for the participants and the audience, said Skinstad to NTB.

You can believe and hope that it will come with many people, but it doesn't. And if you want to get people interested and want to come, it's good to have two competitions at the same time, says Johaug.
