"Particularly worrying is that an increasing proportion of thefts are carried out by organized gangs," says Nina Jelver, head of security at Svensk Handel, in a press release.
The grocery trade was somewhat more affected than the non-durable goods trade, with thefts amounting to SEK 6.1 billion and SEK 5.2 billion, respectively, in 2025. Meat and cold cuts were the most stolen items in the grocery trade, while clothing and shoes were the most stolen in the non-durable goods trade.
