The 88-year-old Pope Francis' condition is still considered life-threatening. Blood tests show that he has "initial, mild kidney failure", but according to doctors, the situation is under control.

He is still receiving large amounts of extra oxygen.

Nuns and priests from around the world gathered on Sunday outside the Gemelli hospital in Rome to pray and sing for Pope Francis. Flowers and candles with get-well wishes have also been left at the statue of the Pope's predecessor in front of the hospital.

I pray for him and his health, for he is a special person for us all, said teacher Ilde Zito.
