The Women's Crown fell to Canada in their first match in the six-nation tournament in Tampere. It was a loss with 1-2 against a Canadian development team without players from the pro league PWHL.

All Canadian players come from college games and eight of them were part of the team that won the Junior World Championship 2022.

Sweden fell behind 0-2 before Thea Johansson, also a college player from University of Mercyhurst, could score a goal to reduce the deficit.

The goal came shortly after Canada's second goal, but the Swedish team did not get any closer.

Sweden does not have any of its players from PWHL, on the other hand, the goalkeeper Emma Söderberg from Boston is part of the team.

However, the Swedish goal was guarded by Ida Boman, Djurgården. Canada won the shot statistics with 21-17.

The six teams are divided into two groups and the two best in each group will advance to the semifinals, while the third-place teams will meet each other in a double match over the weekend.

Sweden will meet the Czech Republic in their next match on Friday.
