The County Administrative Board in Skåne has decided to hunt the wolf for safety reasons after it mauled the elderly Shetland pony, Pippi, so badly that it had to be euthanized earlier this week.

"There have been two attacks in a short period of time and we assess that the risk of further attacks is high. The wolf is in an area where the landscape is open and the availability of ungulates is low, but there are many domestic animals. We have also received observations that the wolf has been seen at several other domestic animal herds," says wildlife officer Tom Espgård in a press release.

A DNA analysis shows that the wolf is a male from a territory in Västmanland.
