The government has appointed a new board for the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. The new chairman of the board will be Lars Strannegård, the president of the School of Economics.

"I am convinced that Lars Strannegård, with his great commitment to cultural issues, will be an excellent chairman," says Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (M) in a press release.

Five additional members are appointed, including art museum director Maria Lind, industrial designer Stina Nilimaa Wickström and architectural historian Henrik Nerlund.

The government has previously decided that the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design (Arkdes) and the Swedish National Art Council will be subordinated to Moderna Museet as of January 1. The newly appointed board will lead the entire organization.

According to Liljestrand, the new design, which differs slightly from the original proposal, will make Moderna a "completely central player in the cultural field."
