The Middle East is undergoing changes that may imply that it is the last chance for a two-state solution to put an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, says the UN's envoy for peace in the Middle East.

She says that Israeli settlements on the West Bank, Israeli military operations on occupied territory, and continued calls for annexation pose an existential threat to the possibility of achieving an independent Palestinian state and thus a two-state solution.

Kaag urges terrorist-listed Hamas and Israel to agree on the second phase of the ceasefire in Gaza.

The international community must ensure that Gaza – which President Donald Trump wants to be controlled by the USA – must be part of a future Palestinian state together with the West Bank and East Jerusalem, she says.

Civilian Palestinians must be able to continue their lives, to rebuild, and create their future in Gaza.
