This summer, SVT announced that the popular training program with Sofia Åhman would only be broadcast as reruns – no new episodes were planned.
The news was not well received by viewers and now SVT has listened to the criticism and is recording new episodes.
Requested
According to Anton Glanzelius, viewers contact us daily and request new episodes.
I work with the biggest programs that Sweden has to offer, but "Home Gym with Sofia" is one of the absolute most in demand, he says.
"Home Gym with Sofia" began airing during the pandemic, when Sofia Åhman gave the audience tips on simpler exercises to do at home.
No one, least of all the managers at SVT, could have imagined that the program would become so big:
We had no idea how long the pandemic would last. The only thing we knew was that Sweden and the whole world were basically locked in their homes, and how could we stimulate them? Then Sofia's way of training – with the help of a chair, a pillow, a mat, a wall – became incredibly accessible, says Glanzelius.
Sofia Åhman also receives comments almost daily from viewers who appreciate her program.
"It's absolutely fantastic fun, and so cool because it's such a simple program. It's a camera and me, no music and no cool celebrities. And no one gets voted out," she says.
Viewers can influence
Now 20 new episodes of the program will be recorded, to be broadcast sometime in the spring. Sofia Åhman invites viewers to make requests about what they would like the new episodes to contain:
"Maybe you've been missing something in the programs that already exist! There are many people who have been to the gym and maybe you've felt that it would be fun to have more of something, then now is the chance," she says.
