Previously, the country's regions had been advised against using the drug, but now the NT Council, an expert group mandated to make recommendations to the regions, has reversed its position on the issue.
The drug may be given to ALS patients after consultation with the NT Council's National Treatment Council for ALS.
Tofersen is currently available in several European countries, including Germany and Belgium. The drug was approved for use in the US in 2023 and in the EU in 2024.
