The name – which in Latin means “to move” – reflects the movement’s international heritage and its will to move forward, according to the organization.
"With Movendi Sweden, we get a common identity that encompasses our entire movement. We build on the best of our three organizations and with a clear direction forward. We want to show that sobriety is not a limitation, but a way of living freely," says Kristina Sperkova, the intended new union chairwoman, in a press release.
The former IOGT-NTO is Sweden's largest temperance organization and was formed in 1970. The member organization considers itself politically and religiously independent and works for a society free from alcohol and drugs.
The new name will be introduced gradually.
