Isak shone again when he once again demonstrated his ability to be in the right place at the right time – and make the most of the situation.
The leading goal against Arsenal in the League Cup semifinal on Tuesday evening exuded calm, skill, and absolute presence in the moment.
Moreover, it was on his rebound that Gordon scored the final result 2–0 at the beginning of the second half after David Raya let the ball bounce back.
"Very unselfish"
His greatest quality is that he is so humble. He is very unselfish, never hesitates to pass the ball, says Gordon about Isak.
Isak's goal tally is impressive. The one against Arsenal was his tenth in just nine matches, all competitions included.
The praise poured in after the semifinal – the first of two – when Isak and Newcastle took a big step towards the final at Wembley in March.
In the first half, he was electric, I think he played really well. He scored a goal, but overall, I thought he had a good game, said manager Eddie Howe at the press conference after the match.
Even Arsenal's manager Mikel Arteta highlighted Isak's performance.
He was involved in both goals and it was basically the only times they had the ball in the penalty area. That's what happens when you have quality up front, it can make the difference.
Isak himself toned down his own performance.
It's a team effort. We came here with the ambition to get a good result and that's what we got, he said.
Felt pain in the back of his thigh
Somewhat worrying are the reports that the national team striker suffered a minor injury. It was said to be the reason why he left the pitch already after about an hour of play at Emirates Stadium.
He felt something in the back of his thigh, so we had to adjust in the second half. It meant a clear deterioration in our performance, explained Howe.
The semifinal return will be played at St James' Park in Newcastle on February 5.
We don't have time to celebrate the win. They are one of Europe's best teams, it's only 2–0. We have to be humble, said Anthony Gordon to BBC.
Isak's national team teammates Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall also have the chance to reach the final. Tonight, Tottenham will take on Liverpool at home in the second semifinal's first match.
