The agency will propose how the canon can be introduced into relevant parts of policy documents and develop guidance on how the cultural canon can be used in education.
"Sweden's cultural canon can be a possible support for teachers to select works and events to teach about while providing our school students with common cultural references, regardless of background," says Minister for Culture Parisa Liljestrand (M) in a press release.
The government has commissioned the National Heritage Board to develop a digital platform to convey knowledge about Sweden's cultural canon to the public. The National Agency for Education will take this platform into account in its work.
The Swedish National Agency for Education must report on the assignment no later than May 31, 2027.
