The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has previously issued an orange warning for snow and wind on Gotland. The warning applies until 21:00 on Saturday.

"Do not travel unnecessarily or be prepared to be stranded. Traffic conditions can be difficult due to drifting snow, slippery roads, poor visibility, and snowstorms", writes SMHI.

Destination Gotland has cancelled a ferry departure from Nynäshamn to Visby on Friday evening and a departure from Visby to Nynäshamn on Saturday morning.

In several places on Gotland, snowplows and personnel are on standby, ready to handle situations where accessibility has been impeded, reports Region Gotland on its website. At the same time, snow clearance will be carried out at full speed with all available machines on the roads.

An orange warning for snow and wind has also been issued for the northernmost part of Öland. The warning applies until 18:00 on Saturday. Yellow warnings apply to the rest of Öland and parts of Kalmar County.

SMHI has also issued a yellow warning for the southeastern parts of Stockholm County, including the municipalities of Värmdö, Tyresö, and Haninge. The warning applies for snow and wind until 07:00 on Saturday morning.

SMHI has three levels of weather warnings:

Yellow warning: Consequences for society, some risks for the general public.

Orange warning: Serious consequences for society, danger for the general public.

Red warning: Very serious consequences for society, great danger for the general public.
