The farewell ceremony will take place in connection with Sweden's Nations League match against Italy at Strawberry Arena in Solna on April 4.
"During the halftime break in the match between Sweden and Italy, which will be played at Strawberry Arena on April 4 at 19:00, a farewell ceremony will be held for our blue and yellow legend Hedvig Lindahl", writes the Swedish women's national team on Instagram.
Lindahl has certainly earned a farewell ceremony. It's enough to go through her merit list.
No Swedish goalkeeper has played more A-national team matches (189) and only two players, Caroline Seger (240) and Therese Sjögran (241), have more overall.
She was the national team's first-choice goalkeeper for nearly 20 years. Her merit list includes World Championship silver in 2003, Olympic Games silver in both 2016 and 2021, and World Championship bronze in 2011 and 2019. She was awarded the Diamantbollen twice (2015 and 2016), the award given to the best player on the women's side.
In an interview with TT last year, she ranked the Olympic Games silver in 2016 as the athletic highlight of her career.
I came into my own during the Olympic Games in Rio, that's when I could help the team the most and reached some kind of peak, Lindahl said then.
Hedvig Lindahl's last national team match was the European Championship semifinal against England (0–4) in July 2022.
