Fenway Sports is selling the Pittsburgh Penguins to a family-owned investment company from Chicago. The purchase price has not been disclosed, but the NHL team is valued at the equivalent of almost 16 billion kronor, according to the financial magazine Forbes. Any sale must be approved by the other NHL owners.
Fenway Sports also owns, among other things, the Premier League club Liverpool and the classic baseball team Boston Red Sox.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have won the Stanley Cup five times and were previously owned by a consortium led by their greatest star of all time, Mario Lemieux. Fenway Sports took over the team four years ago, but Lemieux retains a minor ownership stake.
Currently, Swedes Erik Karlsson, Rickard Rakell and Filip Hållander play in Pittsburgh.
