After a success in the fall league phase, Djurgården has made it all the way to the round of 16 in the European Championship. The opponent is Pafos, with Swedish players Ken Sema and Muamer Tanković in the starting lineup.
And after one of two meetings, it's the Swedish duo's Cypriot team that's in the driver's seat, with a 1-0 lead ahead of the return match in Stockholm.
A really tough match. We haven't lost yet, there's still one match left in Stockholm. We're only halfway, says Tobias Gulliksen to Disney+.
Near leading goal
The match was long and even, and after the first half, it was still goalless. Much thanks to goalkeeper Malcolm Nilsson Säfqvist, who made several fine saves early on.
But in the second half, the cold shower came for Djurgården.
Former "Bajaren" decided
An unfortunate situation where Djurgården couldn't get the ball away led to Muamer Tanković – with a past in Hammarby – being able to pop up at the far post and score the leading goal.
Djurgården did what they could to equalize, but to no avail.
Given the performance we're doing today, I think it's okay with the result we get. Before the match, I would have gladly taken a better result, but it's just to come back and show that we can do better on Thursday, continues Gulliksen.
The return match will be played in a week, then in Stockholm at the 3 arena.
Corrected: In an earlier version, there was an incorrect formulation about the course of events at the goal.
