Ida Zetterström made it to the semifinals in her historic debut in the American drag racing series NHRA – but that's where it stopped.
The Swede competes in top fuel, the fastest class in drag racing, where vehicles reach speeds of over 500 kilometers per hour. Never before has anyone taken the step from Europe to the top fuel class in the USA.
This is the biggest thing I've ever been a part of. This is what I've been working towards for most of my life, she said to TT ahead of the weekend's competition.
Zetterström's debut started with a qualifying round, where she had the 14th time (out of 14) overall. This meant that she faced qualifying leader Steve Torrence in her first heat.
There, the Swede emerged victorious – something that directly qualified her for the semifinals.
In the semifinals, however, Zetterström's adventure came to an end, as she was defeated.
