The State Releases Control Over ATG

The state wants to release control over the gaming company ATG next year. The government decided this today. However, some reservations exist in the proposal. "Provided that the long-term financing of the horse industry can be secured without state control," the government writes in a press release.

The newspaper Travronden revealed last week the changes that ATG is facing.

The state has controlled ATG since 1974 by having a majority in the company's board of directors. Niklas Wykman explains what it means for the company to be outside state control on a deregulated market.

For harness racing, it means partly that one gets full responsibility for ATG and thus gets the power in one's own hands. Partly that one can recruit a board that can develop the company in the best way. An increased professionalization, says Wykman to Travronden.

For harness racing, the decision does not come as a surprise.

Harness racing has wanted this. We have a strong commitment to having a strong equestrian sport in Sweden. In connection with the deregulation, there were many questions that needed to be addressed, this was something that perhaps should have been done then, but it wasn't, says the Minister for Financial Markets.
