Olympic defenseman Rasmus Dahlin has had to pause the NHL season and is in Sweden with his sick fiancée. Now he is receiving support from his national team colleagues. I try to support him as much as possible, says Pittsburgh defenseman Erik Karlsson.

Pittsburgh and Nashville landed in Sweden on Tuesday for this weekend's NHL games, called the Global Series, in the Avicii Arena.

Pittsburgh's star defender Erik Karlsson and Nashville forward Filip Forsberg are suffering with their national team mate and his fiancée.

“Don't get involved”

Last week, it was announced that Rasmus Dahlin, team captain in Buffalo, is pausing the NHL season and has gone home to Sweden to be close to Carolina Matovac, who suffered from heart failure this summer and has undergone a heart transplant.

I found out about it last summer and we played golf together once during the summer. Of course, it's something you can't really understand yourself and how he's really feeling. I try to support him as much as possible and if he needs anything, I'm there for him, says Erik Karlsson.

Rasmus Dahlin went over to Buffalo and played 14 games for his team before canceling the season indefinitely.

"He has done incredibly well and professionally, which has kept it together. He is still playing at a really good and high level and it can't be easy with what is happening on the sidelines," says Karlsson.

“Very boring”

Filip Forsberg says:

It's very sad, but at the same time it's a private matter that I don't want to comment on too much. I wish him and his family all the best.

Rasmus Dahlin is one of six pre-selected players in Tre Kronor's squad for the Olympics in Milan in February.

Pittsburgh and Nashville will meet in two games in Stockholm, on Friday and Sunday.
