After nearly 24 years as a professional tennis player, the 40-year-old has decided to call it quits. The decision means that the 2026 season will be his last.
"A final spurt. Every book needs an ending. It's time to write the final chapter of my career as a professional tennis player," Wawrinka writes.
The Swiss' track record includes grand slam titles at the Australian Open, French Open and US Open, as well as Olympic gold and Davis Cup victory with Switzerland.
"I have appreciated every bit of what tennis has given me," Wawrinka writes.
Wawrinka is currently being coached by Swede Magnus Norman – for the third time in his career – and in 2024 he reached the semifinals of the ATP tournament in Stockholm.
