"I have thought about this over the summer, and the way things have developed in recent weeks, I feel confident with the decision," she says.
The German won the overall World Cup last year, a season that also included four World Championship medals. However, this season the results have not been as good.
"It's become harder for me to find my flow. This is definitely not my easiest phase. But I'm not giving up. I'm going to give it my all every day going forward."
The 31-year-old, who still lacks an Olympic gold medal, is now hoping for success at the Winter Games in Italy in February.
