Hudson Williams and his colleague Connor Storrie became overnight superstars in the HBO series "Heated Rivalry," based on the book of the same name. The duo plays professional ice hockey players who are in a relationship.
Williams' character, Shane Hollander, doesn't dare come out as gay in the macho-dominated ice hockey world, something Williams has received real-life testimony about from people on social media.
They write, "I'm still a professional, and I'm in the closet," he says on the radio show "Radio Andy," according to E News.
He says he is moved by the messages.
Sometimes they reach out privately via Instagram, and those are the ones that really touch you and make you think, "Oh, this is a funny series, and it's celebratory, but sometimes it also hits people straight in the heart."
"Heated Rivalry" has not been released to viewers in the Swedish market, but the series has had a major breakthrough worldwide. Clips from both the series and interviews with the actors are spreading like wildfire on social media.
