Top talent Hanna Bennison never got the boost she had hoped for in English Everton.
Now the national team midfielder is reloading in ambitious Juventus.
It feels cool to test the Italian league, says the 21-year-old.
Skåne native Hanna Bennison had just turned 17 when she made her debut in the national women's football team and already has 44 A-international appearances. When she left Rosengård for Everton in England in 2021, it was the year's most expensive transfer in the women's football world.
Although Bennison got to start most of the time, the development was not what she had hoped for before the move.
Different football
It's been a lot of ups and downs. I've learned a lot from it. How to handle tough situations. Then I didn't get the development and didn't take the step I wanted.
Bennison says this when the national team is gathered in Gothenburg for the two remaining European Championship qualifying matches against France (away) and England (home at Gamla Ullevi) – and she arrived at the training facility on Hisingen as a fresh Juventus player.
It feels good to get something new and a new environment. It feels cool to test the Italian league. It feels like the football is a bit different there, a bit more technical.
In Juventus, former national team teammate Linda Sembrant previously played, but the center-back has been on loan to Bayern München since the turn of the year and recently signed for another year with the German giant club.
As I understood it, she has thrived very well in Juventus and they have been very successful. Won both league and cups, been in the Champions League. It's a team that wants to win.
"Going for victory in the league"
After five consecutive league titles, Juventus has finished second behind Roma for two seasons in a row. Now the target is set on the top again. The Turin club has also recruited Swiss Alisha Lehmann (from Aston Villa) and Danish Amalie Vangsgaard, who won the Damallsvenskan top scorer title in 2022 with 22 goals in Linköping before leaving for Paris Saint-Germain.
That's what you've heard: they want to go for victory in the league. It feels like they're making a push now and trying to really start over and go for it again, says Hanna Bennison.
