Orienteering star Tove Alexandersson may get another chance at the Winter Olympics – in trail running. But the decision won't be made until this summer.

The idea was for the International Olympic Committee to decide on possible new sports for the 2030 Olympics in the French Alps at its December meeting. But now the decision has been postponed until June.

One of the proposed disciplines is trail running, mountain running. Tove Alexandersson, reigning world champion in mountain running's short distance (45 km), could then get another chance to make it to the Olympics. She qualified for the Olympics in Milan and Cortina in ski mountaineering, in the mixed class, but fell at the finish line.

Another summer sport being evaluated is cyclocross. It would be the first time a summer sport has been included in the winter program, if any of those sports are selected.

But ice climbing and the skiing discipline freeride are also among the suggestions.

"We will continue to assess all existing sports on the Winter Olympic program, as well as potential new sports. And the decision will be made in June," said Kirsty Coventry, president of the International Olympic Committee.
