After more than three years without playing, information came that the 44-year-old American had registered with tennis' disciplinary unit ITIA to be available for doping tests.
According to The Guardian, a possible comeback could take place at next year's US Open, in the mixed doubles or doubles with sister Venus, 45. The older sister returned to tennis this summer after a 16-month hiatus.
Serena Williams now completely dismisses the idea that she is planning a comeback at the top level.
"Hörni, I'm not coming back. It's crazy how the rumor has spread," Williams writes on X.
The last time Serena Williams played an official match was in the third round of the 2022 US Open.
She is considered the best women's tennis player of all time and has won 23 Grand Slam titles during her career.
