The message is based on personal problems for Bergman.
"I understand very well that this creates an unsustainable situation for my employer who was not aware of this. I have, in consultation with the Swedish Table Tennis Federation, come to the conclusion that I am leaving the assignment. I am also grateful for the support they are showing now and going forward", he says.
For the association, the underlying reasons come suddenly.
"This is, of course, a shock for us. As an employer, the Swedish Table Tennis Federation will now focus on supporting Tobias so that he becomes healthy and can rise from this personal tragedy", says Thomas Buza, Secretary-General of the Swedish Table Tennis Federation, to the website.
He also tells SVT that the conflict between star Truls Möregårdh and the association has nothing to do with Bergman's resignation.
Bergman has been the national team captain for both the men's and women's national teams in table tennis since last autumn. Before the dual responsibility, he was the national team captain for the women's team since 2022.
For the time being, Peter Blomqvist will take over as national team captain. However, the association writes that they will look for a sustainable long-term solution together with the national team players.
