The Shining axe wielded by Jack Nicholson to go up for auction

The axe Jack Nicholson uses to chop through a hotel room door in the 1980 horror classic “The Shining” may have a new home.

These are items from director Stanley Kubrick's private collection that will be sold at Bonhams next year, reports The Independent.

The axe used by Nicholson is estimated to fetch between 30,000 and 50,000 pounds, equivalent to just under 400,000 to just over 660,000 Swedish kronor.

In “The Shining,” based on a novel by Stephen King, Jack Torrance uses the axe to try to murder his wife, Wendy, played by Shelley Duvall, after he goes insane.

Other items being sold at the auction include the blue dresses worn by the Grady sisters in the film and Kubrick's original screenplay.
