Novak Djokovic has begun his quest for a historic 25th Grand Slam title. He defeated top seed Pedro Martínez in three straight sets at the Australian Open.

The Serbian tennis icon has won 24 Grand Slam singles titles, the same number as Australian Margaret Court.

In Melbourne, Novak Djokovic hopes to once and for all secure a 25th. If so, it would mean his more than two-year Grand Slam drought would be over. Since winning the US Open 2023, Djokovic has seen his younger rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner seize the biggest titles.

At least it has got off to a confident start for fourth seed Djokovic. The 71st ranked Spaniard, Pedro Martínez, could do nothing against the "king of the Australian Open" (ten tournament titles), who won in three straight sets (6–3, 6–2, 6–2).

"It's great to be back. This is my favorite court," Djokovic said in his victory interview at Rod Laver Arena after his 100th victory at the tournament.
