The Islamist movement HTS in Syria claims to have taken control of the eastern city of Dayr az-Zawr, which has a population of approximately 270,000 people.
"Our forces have taken over the entire city of Dayr az-Zawr", the movement says in a statement.
HTS and its leader Ahmed al-Sharaa (who has also used the pseudonym Abu Mohammed al-Julani) ousted the Assad regime on Sunday in connection with their capture of Damascus.
