Pope Francis' voice has once again echoed across St. Peter's Square in Rome. In a recording played during a prayer meeting for the Pope, the 88-year-old said he thanks those who have prayed for his recovery "from the bottom of his heart".

"May God bless you and the Virgin Mary protect you. Thank you", said the Pope.

The Pope's health condition is still stable and he has not been affected by any new breathing problems, the Vatican announced on Thursday.

The Pope has been cared for at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome since February 14 for, among other things, double-sided pneumonia. Blood tests have previously also shown signs of "early, mild kidney failure".
