The American pope chooses three American films and one Italian: Frank Capra's Christmas classic "It's a Wonderful Life" from 1946, "The Sound of Music" from 1965, and Robert Redford's directorial debut "A Family Like Any Other" from 1980.
Italian director Roberto Benigni's Oscar-winning comedy from 1997, also titled "Life is Wonderful," is also a favorite of the Pope.
The Pope wants to "deepen dialogue with the world of cinema and explore the possibilities that artistic creativity offers for the Church's mission," the Vatican said.
Italian actress Monica Bellucci and directors such as Spike Lee and Giuseppe Tornatore are also expected to attend.
