Francis is hospitalized at the Gemelli hospital in Rome for a month. The doctors have since a few days ago confirmed that his condition is stable and that he is slowly getting better, after a critical period with life-threatening respiratory difficulties.
The Pope is still receiving medical treatment as well as physiotherapy for his respiratory problems, according to the hospital. It is unclear when he can be discharged.
However, the Pope continues to work from his sickbed to consolidate his legacy within the Catholic Church, announces the Vatican. On Saturday, Francis approved a new plan for the synod he has led since 2021: an extension until 2028.
The synod has included issues that were previously controversial for the Catholic Church. Among other things, it has concerned LGBTQI individuals within the Church and the question of female deacons.
