This concerns income from songs that the group recorded together between 1977 and 1984. The civil case has been submitted to High Court, according to BBC.
Guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland claim that they have been paid too little for their contributions to songs like ”Roxanne” and ”Every breath you take”. They are indeed not listed as co-authors of the songs but claim that the band made a verbal agreement in 1977 to share the revenue. Sting does not agree that such an agreement existed, but it was nonetheless formalized in 1981 in a written contract.
Sting, who is actually named Gordon Sumner, wrote most of the band's hit songs and denies that he has paid too little to the former band members.
The band broke up in 1984, after having been in disagreement on both an artistic and a personal level.
