The Police Authority is expected to go back with over one billion kronor this year, reports SR Ekot.
We have gone a bit too fast in our budget pace in relation to what the budget allows, says economic director Caroline Viper to the radio.
Primarily, it is pension costs and salaries to new staff that are costly.
The final budget forecast for 2024 will be submitted to the government on July 26. The latest estimate, from April, suggests that the budget, which is a total of 40 billion kronor, will break by one billion.
To balance the budget, the authority must now empty its entire emergency reserve – money intended for unforeseen expenses. This has not happened since the Police Authority's reorganization in 2015.
