Andrew Ranken, drummer for iconic folk rock group The Pogues, has died at the age of 72, NME reports. He was "the heartbeat of The Pogues," the band wrote on Instagram.

Andrew Ranken, nicknamed "The Clobberer", co-founded the Irish-British band The Pogues in 1983 and played with the group until 1996, and later again from 2001 to 2014.

The Pogues' biggest hit is the 1987 Christmas classic "Fairytale of New York". The group's former singer and enigmatic frontman Shane MacGowan died in 2023.
