The libretto in North Sami is written by Rawdna Carita Eira, a Sami playwright and author from Norway who has, among other things, worked at the Sami National Theatre in Norway. Together with the director of "Stöld", Elle Márjá Eira, she has previously set up a Sami opera work in Canada.

"Jordens hjärta/Eatnama váibmu" is, however, a newly written opera commissioned by the Royal Opera, which will be the first in Europe to stage an opera in a Sami language, according to press officer Jenny Mattsson. The music is composed by the Swedish composer Britta Byström.

The story is about the Sami creation myth and an important theme is life in harmony with nature. The production will feature "a visual re-interpretation of Sami tradition", yoik and a large children's choir.

The opera is aimed at an audience from 10 years and upwards. It will be performed in North Sami and will have its premiere on November 15.
