He travels around the world to chase success in ski cross. At the same time, his partner is at home and takes care of their two children. When I'm away and can't help, I get a little stressed, says Olympic hopeful Erik Mobärg ahead of this week's World Cup premiere.

Ten years ago, Erik Mobärg made his World Cup debut and lived life as a ski cross racer 100 percent.

Nowadays, life is different for the 28-year-old.

Together with her partner Alma, they have two boys, five years old and a few months old respectively.

You gain perspective on what is really important in life, and that is children and family, he says.

“Life is better with family”

Family life has certainly resulted in the realization that “life is better when you have a family.” At the same time, it is a constant struggle to find enough time for training, competition, and life at home in Östersund.

How do you put it together?

During the summer, things are a little different when you have children. You can't spend exactly the same amount of time training as before. At the same time, it's a carrot to do the workouts you do really well, he says.

I have developed a lot physically since I had children, so I don't immediately see that I have become less fit.

What is it like to be away for such long periods of time as you can be?

There's a lot to take care of at home for my partner when I'm away. Luckily, we have family who help out a lot.

How does being away affect you?

When I'm away and can't help, I get a little stressed.

If it had been 20 or 30 years ago, it wouldn't have been as easy. Now you have access to talk via video link and it becomes easier to have continuous contact. It wouldn't have been like that 20 years ago. Then you're gone. Maybe that's what makes it work anyway.

Is it worth it?

I can't keep going for as long as I want. I feel like it's time to be home a little more. I'll ride this season and then we'll make a decision about what the future holds.

Chasing revenge in the Olympics

Erik Mobärg, together with his brother David, was among the first to take a place in Sweden's Olympic squad for the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina.

In the Olympic final in Beijing 2022, he finished fourth.

I'm really hungry for revenge and it's going to be crazy fun to do an Olympics in Europe. I was in Asia the two times before, and now the family can be there.

Alongside his partner Alma and their two children, Mobärg's mother and father will be present with their respective children during the Olympics.
